John Ames on “Civil War Naval Blockade”

Mr. Ames will speak on the Civil War Naval Blockade, tracking the assignments of his great grandfather, who was in the U.S. Navy as an engineer during the war.

John Ames was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, into a family that had ancestors who had roles during historical events. He became interested in Civil War history during high school, and attended the University of Cincinnati with a dual major in history and political science.

Mr. Ames is retired. His work experience was as a business/facilities manager for such diverse callings as a national trade show decorating contractor, a private school for children with learning disabilities, and a local church built in 1872. He and his wife have lived in Menlo Park for the past thirty-six years.
